Marion Doyle Gates

January 24, 1944 — September 10, 2022

After several years of failing health, Marion Doyle Gates born January 24, 1944 in Warrick County, Indiana, left this earth to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the place prepared for him. Marion grew up in southern Indiana and graduated from Boonville High School. He joined the Army in 1964. He was a military policeman assigned to the Executive Flight Attachment serving Lyndon B Johnson. In 1967 he returned home and then moved to Springfield, Ohio to join his brother working at International Harvester as a plant guard and safety officer. While there Marion began taking college classes at Clark State that eventually led to an Associate Degree in Nursing. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. He found fulfillment and a sense of purpose working at Community Hospital and then Grant Hospital in Columbus until his health prevented him from doing the job he loved. Marion was an avid golfer. He loved the challenge of the game and opportunity to make many new friends. Marion’s greatest love came when he gave his heart to Jesus. He served Him for over 40 years. He was an usher and member of the safety team at Maiden Lane.

Marion leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Roberta; his daughters, Stephanie and Susan; his brother, Ron (Dianne) Gates; his sister, Marie (Jim) Stone; brother-in-law, Rick (Debbie) Elix; sisters-in-law Sandra Gates and Barb Perkins; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Jack Crew and Paul Johnson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Reba Perkins; stepfather, Lavern Perkins; brothers, Raymond Gates and Alan Perkins; father-in-law, Robert Elix; and mother-in-law, Clara Elix.
