Patricia M. Stormont

April 8, 1955 — September 27, 2021

Patricia Marie (Ritchie) Stormont, 66, passed away September 27, 2021 in Kettering, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Wyman and Mona Ritchie. Patty was born April 8, 1955 in Catskill, New York. She has been a resident of Cedarville, Ohio since the fall of 2017. Patty was married to R. Michael Stormont for 45 years. During Mike’s 38 years with Cummins Engine Inc., they lived and served in Columbus, Indiana at Berean Bible Church and in Jamestown, New York at Bethel Baptist Church.

As the daughter of a pastor, Patty served with her parents’ ministry throughout the New England region including, Cossayuna, NY Grapeville, NY, East Lindley, NY, Metheun, MA, and Wellsville, NY culminating in her dad completing his master’s at Dallas Theological Seminary. At the age of seven years old, Patty gave her life to Christ under the teaching of Pastor Ralph Gruenberg. During her high school career, the family moved to Cedarville, Ohio where she met and fell in love with Mike Stormont. She attended Cedarville College from 1972-1976 where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Following graduation, Mike and Patty were married on August 6th at Grace Baptist Church, Cedarville, Ohio. Mike was then employed by Cummins, and they moved to Columbus, Indiana where Patty served as a leader with the Word of Life program at Berean while staying home and pouring into the lives of her children. In 1987, Patty and her family moved to Jamestown, New York and she again poured herself into her heart’s passion, serving in the children’s ministries at Bethel Baptist Church. Patty served in the AWANA program as the Cubbies’ Commander and also as a Sunday School teacher in the junior department and as a youth group sponsor. At home, Patty continued to train, advocate for, and pour every ounce of her energy into her children and modeled service before self to everyone she met. As her children began to head off to college, Patty entered a new phase of ministry caring for a set of twin brothers who were suffering from Alzheimer’s and providing respite care for their families. Once grandchildren began arriving, Patty poured her heart, time, and all of her energy into loving and teaching each one of them. In 2017, Mike and Patty moved back to Cedarville, Ohio to spend their retirement years enjoying time spent visiting with family and friends and caring for both their mothers.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Mike Stormont, her 4 children and 9 grandchildren, Becky (Brandon and Hannah, Alayna, Kyleigh, Keira) Dow, Dave (Audrey and Adison, Ashlynn, Lily, Julia) Stormont, Josh Stormont, Kathy (Barry and Brayden) Adams, sisters Mona Lou White and Nancy Ritchie, brother Tim Ritchie, sisters-in-law Jan Ritchie, Cheryl Brown, Carol Ropp and Sue Stormont, brothers-in-law Norm Brown, Eddie Ropp and Hal Stormont, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Patty spent the vast majority of her life preparing to meet her Lord and Savior and often reminded her children of the following thought, Philippians 4:8…Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 9:30-11:00AM at Grace Baptist Church, Cedarville. The service will begin at 11:00AM. Patty will be laid to rest at Massie Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that money be sent to Grace Global Missions.
