Shirley Ruth Mershon

Shirley, age 71, was peacefully ushered through the gates of heaven on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from Soin Medical Center, Beavercreek, Ohio following a tough battle with heart and lung issues. Shirley was born November 6, 1949 to parents Howard and Ada (Adkins) Allen in Springfield, Ohio. She found the love of her life, Frank Mershon, at age 14 and remained deeply in love with him throughout their 55 years of marriage. Shirley was so proud to be his wife and always considered him her greatest blessing on earth. If you'd ask her, and.... even if you didn't... She'd proudly proclaim he was the most handsome, talented man God ever created. Their unwavering love for each other is such a beautiful example for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of what marriage, in Christ, should be. They lived their lives together by God's grace leaning on their Lord and Savior for strength and wisdom as, hand in hand, they faced the storms of life.

Tragedy struck early with the loss of their firstborn son, Tracey . The Lord, however, went on to bless them with three more sons, Howard, Frankie, and Troy. Shirley was an extraordinary, loving mom... fiercely defensive of and loyal to her boys. The depth of her love for them could never be conveyed with mere words. If you knew her, then you already know her boys were her pride and joy. They were her life's work and, in her mind, her greatest accomplishment. The most important thing in this world to her was that her three sons knew Jesus and remained close to one another.

Shirley beamed with pure delight in the presence of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared a special bond with each of them and each one adored their Grandma Shirley. They were her world and she would gladly hold your attention for hours while telling you about each one and why they were the most athletic, the prettiest, smartest, strongest, fastest, most incredible children to ever set foot on planet earth.

Shirley was a long-time member of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ in Springfield, Ohio where she will be greatly missed by her church family. She was a hard worker all of her life. She retired after many years from Fulmer Foods and then proceeded to work at O Cedar for a few years as well. She loved time with her family. She loved backyard cookouts, bonfires, four wheelin, sing a long, hosting holiday dinners, and making sure everyone felt welcomed and special. Shirley loved music, dancing, Motown sounds, and her little dogs Peanut and Angel. Most of all, Shirley loved Jesus and told everyone she met of His faithfulness and their need to have Him in their lives.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, mother, infant son- Tracey Mershon, brother- Charlie Allen, sister- Dorothy Palmer, sister- Mary Allen, sister- Barbara Lanum, and just a few days ago, her sister- Alice Judd.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Frank E. Mershon, Sons- Howard (Lori) Mershon, Frankie (Chairatae) Mershon, Troy (Kelly) Mershon, Grandchildren Jacob (Caitlin) Mershon, Jessica (Tom) Shingler, Jed & Colton Mershon.
