Alice Frances Bell, 78, of Springfield, Ohio, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Sunday, January 25, 2026. She was born November 6, 1947, the youngest daughter of the late Lonnie and Belva Bell, Sr.
Alice’s memory will be cherished by her siblings: sisters Claret Belle of Columbus, Ohio; Angela Spencer and Delores Banks of Springfield, Ohio; and brother Gerald (Rebecca) Bell of College Park, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great cousins, and special cousins Diane Ferguson and Marya Carson Beverly. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Belva Bell, Sr. and brother Lonnie Bell, Jr. She was a member of many prayer and study groups as she sought to develop her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Alice was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, received her BA from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio and obtained a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland-College Park, Maryland. She was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, a spiritual advisor for the Holy Trinity Conference of St. Vincent De Paul, a past officer of the National Council of Negro Women and a member of the NAACP. Alice continued her love of education by periodically mentoring students in the Springfield City Public School System. The majority of Alice’s career was spent in Washington, DC, where she was employed as a Librarian in commercial law offices and Georgetown University. Alice returned to Springfield, Ohio, to attend to the needs of ailing family members and was employed by LexisNexis in Dayton, Ohio. Alice was employed by the Moritz Law Library of The Ohio State University until her retirement.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 p.m. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield, Ohio, followed by a Christian service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
