Centurion, Audrey Shaw was born March 5, 1920, and passed into Heaven March 6, 2020. Audrey was preceded in death by husband Leroy Shaw and parents Earl and Sernia Crawford, her sister Margaret Schneider and nephew Fred Schneider.
Audrey grew up on a farm southwest of Waynesville, Ohio and graduated from Waynesville High School in 1938. She was a very good athlete and lettered in track. Audrey said that once she played barnyard basketball with Jonathan Winters. She graduated from business college and her first job was in the Presidents’ office at Wittenberg College. She later worked for National Supply in Springfield, Tastee Freeze in Yellow Springs, and was a contributing reporter to the Yellow Springs News. In her eighties she had her last job as a waitress in Jerry’s Corner Café in Clifton, Ohio, where she enjoyed going on a regular basis to visit with cherished friends.
Audrey was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served there in the Goodwill Circle and was vigilant about selling tickets to the Church annual chicken dinner fundraiser. She was in the Auxiliary of the Rescue 95, a longtime member of the Airway Farm Bureau, and served as an officer in Eastern Star Lodge in Yellow Springs. Audrey had an interest in the Clark County Fair and won many blue ribbons with her antique entries. She actively supported the Clifton, Ohio, Opera House and was once the Grand Marshall of the Clifton Old Timers Day Parade. She also participated in vintage style shows.
When asked if there was anything she would have changed about her long life she said, “I would have taken better care of myself.” Her Ohio state driver’s license expired on her 100th birthday!
Audrey is survived by her son, Ronald L. Shaw and his family, a sister- in- law, Esther Shaw Waddle Pyles and many nieces and nephews.
