Bert E. Cassel, age 84, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on April 9, 2026, at Springfield Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born May 2, 1941, in South Charleston, Ohio, the son of the late Lillie Mae and Bert Cassel.
Bert dedicated 33 years of service to Navistar before retiring in 1996. In his earlier years, he worked alongside his close friend, Gene Baldwin, in farming and was also employed as a meat cutter at Shoemaker’s in South Charleston, Ohio. He was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty to both his profession and his friendships.
Bert had a passion for NASCAR racing and a deep love for horses. He especially cherished the time spent with his beloved horse, Tucker, sharing that joy with his daughter Kim and granddaughter Alyssa—memories that will be treasured by his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Kim Rogers and Traci (Gene) Spina; grandchildren, Amber Rogers, Taylor (Ben) Dotson, Zach (Victoria) Spina, and Alyssa (Derek) Wilbur; and great-grandchildren, Xavier White, Daxton and Zeke Hadley, Ryker and Tate Dotson, Carson and Paisley Spina, and Evelyn and Asher Wilbur. He is also survived by his sisters, Florence Williams, Connie (David) Getty, and Lana Kay Blair, numerous neices and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal, Fannie, Barbara, and Shirley, and his brothers, William and David.
In accordance with his wishes, Bert donated his body to Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine for medical research.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, 2425 N. Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio on Sunday May 3, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments will follow.
Bert will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family, and the simple joys he found in life.
