Betty Jane Stanley

December 4, 1929 — November 28, 2025

Formerly of Springfield, Ohio

Betty Jane Stanley, a beloved member of the Springfield community, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the Hospice of Western Reserve in Euclid, Ohio. Born on December 4, 1929, in Springfield, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of Logan and Melva (Burns) Marratta.

Betty dedicated 15 years of her professional life to the admissions office at Wittenberg University, where her warmth and welcoming demeanor made a lasting impact on students and staff alike. Following her time at the university, she honed her talents as a floral designer and secretary at Schneider's Florist in Springfield, Ohio, for eight years. Her artistic flair and love for beauty were evident in both her work and her personal life.

A graduate of Springfield High School in 1947, Betty's passion for music was evident from a young age. She learned to play the piano early on and participated in several National Piano Playing Auditions, showcasing her dedication to the art. Music was a significant part of her life, and she enjoyed sharing that love with others.

On September 2, 1950, Betty married the late Bill E. Stanley, who was a significant figure in her life and legacy. Together, they built a family and created countless memories. Betty is survived by her loving children: Darlene Born of Wilmington, North Carolina; Daniel (Sheryl) Stanley of Concord Twp, Ohio; and Melinda Stanley of Dublin, Ohio. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, bringing joy to their lives with her nurturing spirit.

Betty was known for her extensive involvement in her community, serving as a lifelong active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Springfield, Ohio. She held various roles within the church, including church treasurer, choir member and director, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. Betty's contributions to the church were significant; she also assisted in preparing and serving at the annual Bean Suppers. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church, as she volunteered at Springfield Regional Medical Center and was a Brownie Scout leader. With Mitsy, her loyal therapy dog, she brought comfort and companionship to many through the registered Therapy Dog Program.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Marratta, and her former brother-in-law, Roger Ludlow, as well as several nieces and nephews who will carry on her memory.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Stanley; her parents, Logan and Melva (Burns) Marratta; her daughter, Dianna Stanley; and her siblings, Ralph Marratta and Marjorie (Floyd) Jones.

A funeral service to honor Betty's remarkable life will be held on December 8, 2025, at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield, Ohio.
