Billy Gene Bailey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 84. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy of devotion, kindness, and joy will remain ever present.
Born on May 16, 1942, Billy grew up guided by the unconditional love of his parents, Aaron and Cleo Bailey, and alongside his brothers Bobby and Kenneth, all of whom preceded him in death.
Billy built a distinguished career as an autoworker at the Chrysler Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, he retired after many years of hard work and craftsmanship.
Above all, Billy treasured his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Nellie Thomason Bailey, who was his steadfast partner and greatest supporter. Together, they built a warm and loving home, raising children who carry forward the values he lived every day. Billy leaves behind daughter Debbie (Mike) Hazlett, son Darrell Bailey, daughter Vicky (Eddie) Watson, son Bryan Bailey, and daughter Leslie (David) Niggemeyer. Although he mourned the loss of his son David Allen Bailey, Billy’s resilience was always visible in the careful attention he gave to every member of his family. He is also survived by his brother, Frankie Bailey.
As a grandfather, Billy was a pillar of strength and encouragement, he was delighted in the company of his grandchildren: Julie (Charles) Irwin, Audrey (Geoff) Knight, Derrick (Stephanie) Bailey, Danyail (Doug) Montavy, Dustin Bailey, Alyssa (Brendan) Nenadal, Tyler (Angel) Watson, Emily (Gregory) Felts, Haley (Mark) Channels, Hanna (Tchanse) Schoen, Riley Niggemeyer, Sammy, Eric, Savannah, and Natalia as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Billy will also be fondly remembered by loving extended family members: Lyndsay (Jacob) High, Shane Bailey, Troy Bailey, Brianna Bailey.
Billy’s life was full of warmth and joy, especially when surrounded by loved ones. He had a special fondness for Christmas—embracing every moment of the season from enthusiastic decorating to lively family games—creating lasting memories that his family will carry with them always. He relished family gatherings, where games of cards and dominos brought everyone together. Fishing trips were a cherished tradition, providing moments of peace and reflection, and he found tremendous happiness in the simple pleasures of spending time with those he loved.
A man of many interests, Billy also had a deep appreciation for music, delighting friends and family with his talents on the keyboard. His adventurous spirit was apparent in his love for travel, whether discovering new places by motorcycle, train, or car. Every journey was enriched by his insatiable curiosity and eagerness to make memories.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Billy’s remarkable life at the Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, 2425 N Limestone St, Springfield, OH 45503. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM.
