Charlene (Estep) Malloy, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 15, 2026. She was born February 15, 1948 in Flat Gap, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Charles and Golda Mae (Lemaster) Estep.
A proud graduate of Northeastern High School in 1966, she began her professional life with the welfare department, where she worked diligently from 1966 until her retirement in 1976. Her dedication and compassion during this time were a testament to her character and the deep care she had for others. After her retirement from public service, Charlene embraced the role of homemaker with grace and warmth, nurturing her home and family with unwavering devotion. For Charlene, family was everything. Her ‘girls’—her beloved daughter and granddaughters—were the center of her universe, and she cherished every moment spent with them. In 2019, she welcomed her first great-grandchild, Wyatt Timothy, who quickly became her prized possession. Then came Charli Grace and Collins Jo, all whom she loved making memories with. Outside of her family, Charlene enjoyed a number of hobbies and interests that brought her joy and relaxation. She loved shopping and was a passionate fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Joe Burrow with the Cincinnati Bengals. Puzzle books provided her with engaging challenges, and her annual vacations to Myrtle Beach were treasured retreats. A beloved, wife, mom, grammy, sister, and friend, Charlene will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know and love her.
Charlene is survived by her loving daughter, Courtney (Rob) Stevens, whom she considered a son, granddaughters; Madison (Brian) Taylor and Loghan Stevens, great-grandchildren; Wyatt, Charli, and Collins, siblings, Carrienell Gilliland, Jane (Nelson) Horn, Ginny (Scott) Harkins, Jim (Barb) Estep, Phil (Dodie) Estep, and Joe Estep, sister-in-law, Lou Estep,, special friend, Diane, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Timothy A. Malloy, parents, siblings; Dave Estep, Bill Estep, Judy (Jesse) Helton, and Larry Gilliland.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Jackson Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 1:00 PM, also at the funeral home. Charlene will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Ferncliff Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.jacksonlytle.com.
