Cynthia Clegg, affectionately nicknamed Kathy by her grandmother, was born October 21,1959, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the third daughter and child of six to A.C. and Erma J. (Pendleton) Clegg.
Kathy grew up in Chicago, where she attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and School. It was there that she was baptized in 1967. She loved to dance, and began her start at the Lower North Center, a Center of the Arts in Chicago. She furthered her education by following her big sisters’ footsteps in attending the 1st private HBCU, Wilberforce University, in Wilberforce, Ohio. While pursuing her dreams, Kathy fell in love and married Roland Northington. While they eventually separated, from this union, they created three beautiful children. As a fulltime, wife, mother and student, Kathy became part of the proud graduating Class of 1984. She earned her Vocational Rehabilitation degree and became a Licensed Social Worker. She continued her love of dance with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. As a Licensed Social Worker, Kathy loved her job. She went above and beyond to ensure that her clients were treated with respect and care. She also worked at the Boys and Girls Club of Dayton, Ohio, where her own children could enjoy the afterschool activities. Later, in life she joined Greater Grace Temple in Springfield, Ohio to commit her life to God. Outside of dancing, Kathy also enjoyed listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her family as it grew. She was an excellent grandmother to her three granddaughters and devoted much of her time to making memories with them. Her second nickname was Katt2Tuff and she lived up to every bit of it. She was loved by many people, friends, colleagues, and relatives. She was always the life of the party. She fought for the love of her family and children until her last breath. She transitioned peacefully on January 5, 2026.
She leaves to continue her legacy: her daughter, Nicole (Rodney) Lewis; sons, Nicholas Northington and Jeremy Northington; grandchildren, Serenity Lewis, Aaron Lewis, Nylah Northington, and Samiya Northington; sisters, Pamela (Gordon) Cook and Renee James; brothers, Lemenzo (Payton) Clegg and Tony (Alethea) Clegg. To cherish her memories are a special daughter, Victoria Harris and her children, Audrey Harris and Tyler Clark; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
