C. David Henry, 81, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. David was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert "Bob" and Phoebe Henry. He grew up in Wilmington, Ohio, alongside his two brothers, helping on the family farm where he discovered his love for animals. He went on to attend The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and began his career in Greensburg, Indiana, where he practiced for eight years and met the love of his life, Kathy. In 1978, they moved to Springfield, where he founded Northwood Veterinary Hospital. Over 36 years in practice, he cared for thousands of animals before retiring in 2006. A longtime member of the Northridge Lions Club, David served as President and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian service. He also served as a Deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He loved volunteering at the Lion's Christmas Tree Lot and cooking for a crowd at Lions Club meetings and church Thanksgiving dinners. He cared for people much the way he cared for animals. David was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. He could recite just about any stat when it came to his beloved team. Growing up working on the farm, he didn't get to play many sports, but he loved basketball, fishing, golfing trips with friends, and watching his children and grandchildren play. David was a gifted storyteller, and sometimes it was hard to know what was real and what was a tall tale. He remembered every landmark, and his directions were always detailed maps. Even when he wasn't as vocal in his later years, his eyes would still light up for family and friends with that mischievous twinkle. And he didn't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, because he's from O-HI -O. David is survived by his wife, Kathy (Ernstes) Henry; his children, Rachael (Matt) DeLeon, Adrienne (Hollis) Owens, and Michael Henry; his grandchildren, Eva and Landon DeLeon, Hollis and Annabelle Owens, and Hazel and Calvin Henry; his brother, Bruce (Dorothy) Henry; his sister-in-law, Susan Henry; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Phoebe Henry, and his brother, Nial Henry. Visitation will be from 9-11:00AM Saturday, November 21, 2026, in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone St., Springfield, OH followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM. A celebration of Life will be held following the services at the Springfield Polo Club, 3644 Urbana Road, Springfield, OH. In lieu of flowers; the family asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Covenant Presbyterian Church.
