Elaine Chiles

Lois Elaine Chiles, age 85, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, September 16,

2026. She was born February 6, 1941, in Springfield, Ohio, a daughter of Earl Bernard

and Lois Kathryn (Naill) Thompson.

Elaine was a member of the Northside Church of God, also the Bellefontaine First

Church of God, worked professionally as a bookkeeper and tax consultant and preparer,

taught Sunday School, enjoyed playing the flute, piano, singing and was a choir/Music

director. She also enjoyed playing board games and card games, solving crossword

puzzles. She cocheted many blankets for use by the Pregnancy Resource Center. She

and her second husband, Dale Chiles, enjoyed traveling on many church trips together

including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. She was a member of the West Central Ohio

Community Concert Band.

She is survived by her children, Gregg W. (Jenny) Harmon, Sandra L. (Todd)

Brittingham, Steven D. (Leslie) Harmon and Laurie B. (Jacob) Erpenbeck;

grandchildren, Corrinne Harmon, Madelyn Harmon, Gwendolyn Brittingham, Addison

Brittingham, Bryce Harmon, Rhys Erpenbeck and Evelyn Erpenbeck; sister, Jeannine

(Charles) Fox and brother, Robert Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren R. Harmon; second husband,

Dale Chiles; her parents, Earl Bernard and Lois Kathryn Thompson; her brother Bernard

Thompson; a sister-in-law, Linda Thompson and a nephew, Scott Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in Elaine’s memory to the
