Emil "Pete" Hixon

August 28, 1938 — February 10, 2026

Springfield, Ohio

Emil J. Hixon, affectionately known to all as "Pete," passed away unexpectedly at home in Springfield, Ohio, on February 10, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 28, 1938, in Jackson, Ohio, he dedicated his life to family, community, and a robust career spanning over 30 years with Navistar before retiring.

Pete was more than a dedicated employee; he was a vibrant member of his community and a beloved family man. He wore the title of "Papa" with pride, relishing every moment spent with his grandchildren. His love for family was evident in everything he did, and he took immense joy in all their achievements. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Joy (Heaton) Hixon, their daughter Amy Miller, and son Dr. Greg (Tracy) Hixon. His legacy continues through his granddaughter, Hannah (Dr. Casey) Turner, grandson Grant Hixon, and great-grandson Beckham, who will forever hold cherished memories of their time with him.

Pete also enjoyed coaching little league baseball, a passion that brought him joy and allowed him to impart wisdom and support to young athletes throughout the years. His love for sports extended beyond the diamond; he was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and had a deep-seated loyalty for OSU sports, often sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.

In addition to his vibrant family life, Pete was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was known amongst his peers and friends as a caring and supportive individual, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh. He was a respected member of the Union Club, finding camaraderie and connection in the company of others who shared his interests.

Pete's spirit will be missed by his sister-in-law Carolyn Hixon, brother-in-law, James (Linda) Heaton, of Savannah, Georgia as well as many nieces and nephews and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hazel (Simpson) Hixon; his brothers William, George, Pat, and Kenny Hixon; his sisters Luella Davis and Dorothy Crabtree; and his son-in-law Denny Miller. Each of these losses carved a space in his heart, but he carried their memories with him throughout his life.

His life will be celebrated at the Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield, Ohio.
