Gerald "Jerry" S. Walters

Gerald “Jerry” S. Walters, 78, of South Charleston, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2026. He was born December 8, 1947, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Letha (Honaker) Walters.

Jerry was one of a kind. He was a man who worked hard, enjoyed life, loved his family, and was often the life of the party. His personality, stories, laughter, and presence made an impression on the people around him, and those who knew Jerry knew there was only one Jerry Walters.

For nearly 61 years, Jerry shared his life with his loving wife, Kathy (Marshall) Walters. Together, they built much more than a marriage and a home. They built a place where family came together.

For generations of their family, Jerry and Kathy's home was the gathering place. It was where everyone came together, where stories were told, laughter filled the room, and countless memories were made. Children grew up there, grandchildren made memories there, and family always had a place where they belonged. Those gatherings became part of the fabric of the family, and the memories created there will be carried forward for generations.

Jerry spent many years working as a machinist at Kelsey Hayes and Globe Products, and most recently at Eagle Tool, where he retired. He took great pride in his work, the things he accomplished, and the friendships he made with the people who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed working on cars, riding his motorcycle, traveling with Kathy, and spending time with friends and family. He was an active member of the Union Club, the Machinist Club, and the Eagles, where he enjoyed good company, conversation, laughter, and making memories with those around him.

But the greatest part of Jerry's life cannot be measured by where he worked, the clubs he belonged to, or even the things he enjoyed doing. It can be seen in the family he leaves behind and in the tremendous number of lives connected to his.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Becky Meddock and Susan (Donald Leatherman) Walters; his special nephew who was like a son to him, Carl (Shannon) Marshall; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sonja) Cook, Ashley (Danny) Evans, Kassi (Jamar) Walters, Drake (Hailey) Meddock, Brian Sparks, and Savannah (Tim) Evans; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Zayne, Lyric, Devlen, Tyler, Dylan, Brendyn, Alyveah, Mylynn, Jakari, Kai, Luke, Alexander, Jackson, Lyric, Haislee, Nevaeh, Xaiden, Joey, Peyton, Viv, and Dax; and great-great-grandchildren, Maliyah, Maximus, Braxton, and Aurora.

Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Peggy Bray, Ronnie Walters, and Vicky Walters.

To his family, Jerry was far more than a name on a family tree. He was a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa, uncle, and friend. He was part of the stories that will continue to be told at family gatherings. He was part of the laughter, the traditions, the lessons learned, and the memories that cannot be replaced.

The house may feel different without him there. Family gatherings will feel different. There will be moments when someone expects to hear his voice, his laugh, or one of his stories. But the family Jerry and Kathy spent a lifetime bringing together is also one of the greatest pieces of his legacy.

Jerry's life was not simply 78 years measured in time. It was nearly 61 years of marriage, generations of family, decades of friendships, countless gatherings, and a lifetime of memories left with the people who loved him.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and never forgotten.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Jerry consider making a donation to a charity meaningful to them in Jerry's memory. Arrangements are entrusted to Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield. Online condolences may be shared with the family through the funeral home.
