Harley Gene McGlothin, affectionately known as Gene, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2026. He was born on September 29, 1938 and lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Gene briefly worked at Navistar before pursuing his passion for carpentry. As a self-employed contractor, he became renowned for his fine craftsmanship, notably completing all the trim work in the homes and condominiums of Kingsgate. His meticulous work continues to stand as a testament to his skill and dedication.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gene was deeply committed to his faith and community. He served for many years as a Sunday school teacher at the First Church of the Nazarene, where he was cherished for his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering guidance rooted in Christ’s teachings. His love for the Lord was evident in all aspects of his life, and he cherished his church family dearly.
A man of simple pleasures, Gene found immense joy in mowing his yard nearly every other day, regardless of the season. Whether riding his mower to pick up sticks or blowing snow around in the winter, this daily ritual brought him peace and satisfaction.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Speakman) McGlothin, to whom he was married for almost 69 years—a lifelong partnership filled with love and mutual respect. He is also lovingly remembered by his children, Sherri (George) Roberts and Mike (Penny) McGlothin; his grandchildren Christopher (Denise) Bittner, John (Shannon) Roberts, Valarie Roberts, Julie (Earl) Currie, and Brooke (Patrick) Loy; as well as several great-grandchildren and extended family members who were blessed by his presence.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Georgia (McCarty) McGlothin, his daughter along with her spouse, Cindy and Buck Bittner and several brothers and sisters.
