Springfield

Henry Paul Pollard, born on August 26, 1948, in Newton, New Jersey, was the beloved son of Harold and Mildred (Slater) Pollard.

Henry's life was defined by his dedication to providing for his family. He worked tirelessly for approximately 20 years in the Deli Department at both Cub Foods and Meijer. His commitment to his loved ones knew no bounds, ensuring their every need was met with unwavering devotion.

But Henry's service extended far beyond the deli counter. He proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 24 years. Serving during the Vietnam War and in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm/Calm, he exemplified courage and sacrifice. Throughout his military career, Henry traveled to numerous locations including Okinawa, Japan, Turkey, Virginia, Alaska and even had the esteemed honor of serving as Joint Chief of Staff at the Pentagon for several years.

When not busy with work or military service, Henry indulged in a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. One such passion was collecting stamps, with a particular fondness for Ryukyu and USA stamps. He also possessed a unique talent for disassembling objects just to scrap their metal—an intricate pastime that captured his curiosity and resourcefulness. Additionally, Henry found solace in fishing during his time spent in Alaska; nature provided him with an escape unlike any other.

On August 21, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family members who meant the world to him, Henry Paul Pollard peacefully passed from this world. Leaving behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Henry's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jo (Finigan) Pollard; his daughter Teana Pollard; his cherished granddaughter Dakotah Pollard-Kern; his brother Raymond Pollard and Sharon Pollard; his sister Debbie Snook and Jeff Snook; his sisters-in-law Edith Pollard and Rana Chattaway and Ed Chattaway; his brother-in-law Tommy Finnigan and sister-in-law Paulette Finnigan. Additionally, he leaves behind Mary Palmer, a close friend; daughter by choice, Becki (Michael) Spera and their children, Tahnee Burnette (Shelby Harbin), Lexi (Danny) Kirkland, Anja Burnette (Scott Bryant) and Anthony Spera; neighbors, Terry and Debbie Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pets, his baby Karma, Bella, and Romeo who were always by his side, offering unconditional love. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mildred Pollard, Grandmother, Hatti Slater and brother, Harold Pollard.
