Jean Armstrong, age 86 of Cedarville went to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 24, 2023. She died peacefully in her sleep while with her family. Jean was born on December 13, 1936 in Elkhart, Indiana to Carl and Hilma (Johnson) Porritt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Terrence Armstrong. She is survived by her brother David Porritt of Caddo Mills, Texas, her sons Leigh (Cynthia) Armstrong of Keokee, Virginia, Michael (Arlene) Armstrong of Littlefield, Texas, daughter Patricia (Clifford) Fawcett of Cedarville, Ohio. She had 8 grandchildren: Shaun, Andrew (Nicole), Lawrence, Ryan, Brandon (Jesenia), Ben, Maddie, Tyler, and 9 great grandchildren: Conner, Andrew, Elizabeth, Lizzy, Colby, Allison, Eloise, Margaret, and Francine. Jean received her bachelor’s degree from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY, and her Master of Education from the State University of New York at Cortland. She served as a missionary with her husband Rev. Terry Armstrong for 30 years with Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) in Lima, Peru, Bogota, Colombia and Vineland, NJ. After retiring as a missionary, she taught bilingual elementary school in Millville, NJ for 24 years where she won the Teacher of the Year award. After retiring from teaching she moved to Cedarville, Ohio. During her “retirement” she served as a short-term missionary in Santiago, Chile, Bangui, Central African Republic, and Shire, Ethiopia.
She loved sewing and quilting and spending time with her grandchildren. She was adventurous, courageous, gentle, and kind. Her faith in Jesus was personal and powerful. She dedicated her life to telling others about Jesus. Sharing the good news of the Gospel. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Viewing will be on Friday October 27, 2023, from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at Grace Baptist Church, Cedarville. Funeral services will follow from 11:00am - 12:00 pm with Pastor Tim Cochrell officiating. Burial at North Cemetery following service. Donations may be made in Jean’s honor to Association of Baptists for Evangelism (ABWE) 522 Lewisberry Rd, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
