Josephine Ruth "Jo" Pollard, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 76. Born on December 27, 1947, in Sussex, New Jersey, she filled her life with love, kindness, and a deep commitment to those around her.
For over 25, Jo worked diligently as a secretary at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, showcasing her dedication and unwavering work ethic. Her remarkable service extended beyond her career, as she also devoted countless hours to the First Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a dedicated secretary and participated in various church functions. Her passion for helping others shone brightly, earning her the admiration and love of her church family and friends.
Jo was known as the sweetest and kindest soul, always wearing a smile that could light up any room. Her gentle and caring nature made her a mother figure to many, as she extended her nurturing spirit to beyond just her immediate family. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel loved and supported, which was a testament to her heart of gold.
In addition to her professional and community contributions, Jo was proud of her volunteer work, dedicating her time to various organizations, including the food bank in Springfield. She was a selfless, patient person who consistently put others before herself, embodying the true essence of compassion.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Teana Pollard and Cassie Kern, as well as her granddaughter, Dakotah Pollard-Kern (Brian Hays). Josephine will also be deeply missed by her siblings, Tommy (Paulette) Finigan and Rana Chattaway; a wonderful circle of friends, including her close friend, Mary Palmer; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Raymond (Sharon) Pollard, Debbie (Jeff) Snook, and Edith Pollard. She is also survived daughter by choice, Becki (Michael) Spera and their children, Tahnee Burnette (Shelby Harbin), Lexi (Danny) Kirkland, Anja Burnette (Scott Bryant) and Anthony Spera; her loving neighbors, Terry and Debbie Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pets, Karma, Bella, and Romeo.
Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Henry Paul Pollard; her parents, Thomas and Josephine (South) Finigan; and her brother, Bill Finigan. The void left by her absence is profound, but the memories of her warmth, laughter, and boundless compassion will linger in the hearts of many.
A visitation for Jo will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Springfield, Ohio, on September 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Enon Cemetery beside her husband.
