HAMM, Lester C. “Les” 89 of South Vienna, Ohio passed peacefully away at his daughter, Bonnie (Denny) Paul’s residence in South Charleston, Ohio on Monday, August 10, 2020 three days before his 90th birthday. He was born in Thornville, Ohio to the late Ivan and Idella (Long) Hamm on August 13, 1930. He was a 1948 graduate of the Thornville High School. Lester was a famer and worked for the Shelly Company of Thornville, Ohio until 1962 when he moved his family to Springfield. He retired as the Superintendent of the Sand and Gravel Company. After retirement, you could find Lester being an avid fisherman at Lake Erie where he had a summer residence in Port Clinton known as “Vacation Land.” He was a lifelong member of the Clark County Sportsman Club and the Clark and Perry County Ducks Unlimited Chapters. Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Joan D. (Farmer) Hamm in 2006; a 2 year old daughter, Terri Lynn Hamm; his parents; sister, Doris Saum and brother, William Hamm. Surviving family members: Pam (Larry) Shively of Thornville, Ohio; Mike (Heather) Hamm of South Vienna, Ohio; Connie (Dick) Williams of Springfield; Bonnie (Denny) Paul of South Charleston; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Gordon) Clippinger and Frankie Farmer as well as many nieces and nephews. Lester had lifelong friends near and far he treasured greatly. He never knew a stranger and anyone he met he left a lasting impression. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center. His funeral will follow on Friday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Powell officiating. Lester will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park.
