April 25, 1927 — April 7, 2026

Springfield, Ohio

Mary Ellen DeWitt, née Mowell, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 7, 2026, in Urbana, Ohio. Born on April 25, 1927, in Madison County, Ohio, Mary's life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication. She touched many lives and was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary's professional life was marked by a heart full of compassion and a steadfast commitment to care. She retired from Mercy Medical, where she served in the pediatrics unit for 37 years. Her gentle spirit and nurturing nature made an indelible impact on countless children and families throughout her career.

Beyond her work, Mary was a cherished member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield, Ohio, where her deep love for the Lord shone through her every day. Her warm faith carried her through life’s joys and challenges with grace and humility.

She found joy in simple pleasures: playing card games, camping with her family, watching western shows, and shopping. These activities brought smiles and moments of togetherness with those she held dear.

Mary leaves behind a loving family who will deeply miss her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support. She is survived by her son Larry DeWitt and his wife Alicia; her daughter Rosemarie Ramsey and her husband David; and daughter-in-law Julie DeWitt. Her siblings, Rose Ada Eancheff and George A. Mowell, also remember her fondly. Her grandchildren—a source of immense pride and delight—include Jon and Ginger DeWitt, Sara and Shawn Ankrom, Jason and Jennifer DeWitt, Josh and Casey DeWitt, Holly and Mathew Wells, Pamela and Larry Bumgardner, Daniel and Marsha Stroup, Jennifer and John Sedlacek, Alan and Sarah Gentry, Philip and Rebecca Gentry, Jonathan and Amanda Straight, Jerrica and Josh Stackhouse, and Jeanette Trella. Mary Ellen’s legacy continues through numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who carry forward her enduring spirit.

Mary also mourns the loss of beloved family members who preceded her in death: her parents Jacob and Marie (McQuirt) Mowell; her loving husband, William Thomas DeWitt; her children Richard E. DeWitt and Cathy J. DeWitt; her sisters Margaret, Catherine, and Anna Mae; her brother James; and her special friend Harrison “Bud” Golem.

A visitation to honor Mary will be held on April 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, located at 2425 N Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio 45503. A Mass celebrating her life and faith will take place at St. Raphael Church, 225 E. High St., Springfield, on April 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 8200 West National Rd, New Carlisle, Ohio 45344, at 12:15 PM.

Mary’s journey on this earth was a blessing to countless souls. The love, kindness, and faith she exemplified will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to inspire and comfort her family, friends, and community. May she rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of the Lord she cherished so dearly.
