Nancy Sherwood, a beloved educator and dedicated member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in her hometown of Springfield, Ohio. Born on July 22, 1934, Nancy devoted her life to teaching and nurturing the young minds of future generations.

Nancy's educational journey began at Plattsburg High School, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors. She furthered her studies at Wittenberg University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health & Physical Education, followed by a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling. These academic achievements paved the way for a remarkable career in education, where she retired from the Springfield City School District after many years of service.

Throughout her tenure, Nancy made a significant impact at Hayward Junior High as a physical education teacher and later served as a guidance counselor at both Schaefer Junior High and North High School. Her passion for sports and mentoring students extended beyond the classroom as she coached various athletic teams, including basketball, cheerleading, softball, track and field, and volleyball. The enthusiasm she brought to her roles inspired countless students and athletes.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nancy was immensely proud of her service to her community. For over 25 years, she taught 2 and 3-year-olds in junior church, sharing her love of education and nurturing their early development. As a long-standing member of Southgate Baptist Church for more than 50 years, she played an essential role in the spiritual life of her congregation.

Nancy’s legacy will be cherished by her family, including her niece Dawn Wendling and nephew Eric Wendling, along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Everet F. (Norma) Sherwood, her sister Anna (Ronald) Wendling, her nephew Everet Eugene Sherwood, her nephew Shawn Wendling, niece-in-law Jennifer Wendling, and her parents Walter and Lucille (Weese) Sherwood.

Nancy Sherwood leaves behind a profound legacy of kindness, dedication, and love. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her, her contributions to education, and her unwavering spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
