Paul Merwine, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 26, 2025, in Springfield, Ohio. Born on April 17, 1939, in Springfield, Paul lived a life rich in love, service, and community.
Paul’s journey began at South High School, from where he graduated before furthering his education at Clark State Community College, earning an associate's degree in business.
A proud veteran, Paul served in the United States Air Force, with memorable assignments in Korea and Japan. He cherished his time in service, particularly in the Air Police, with the Sentry Dog Section in Japan.
Married for 58 beautiful years to his loving wife, Patricia (Spitler) Merwine, Paul built a warm and supportive family environment cherished by all. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Eric (Mauricanne) Merwine and Linda Merwine. Paul’s family was the center of his world, and he took immense joy in being a grandfather to Renee (Brandon) Barnett, Jack (Jasmine) Shane, Jayson (Victoria) Shane, and Aaron (Kayla) Shane. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Skylie, Ethan, Kandon, Shyanna, Charlotte, and Braxton, who brought him endless happiness and laughter.
In his free time, Paul was an avid runner, participating in numerous marathons, primarily in Dayton and Cleveland. The Dayton Marathon held a special place in his heart and he approached each race with enthusiasm.
Paul cherished his family and friends deeply and is survived by his sister-in-law, Margie (Harold) Powers, and close nephews, Jerry and Jeff. His special dogs, Lily, Sadie, and Cotton, filled his days with exuberance and companionship, further enriching his life.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, Elery and Erma (Campbell) Merwine, along with his cherished siblings: Morris, Betty, Jean, Donna, and Mary Lou. Those who have passed before him now welcome him with open arms as he joins them in everlasting peace.
Paul will be laid to rest at North Cemetery in Cedarville, Ohio. Private services will be held by his family.
