Rod A. Bishop, a beloved husband, dad, papaw, and friend, passed away on February 17, 2026, at Springfield Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the warmth of his memories and the love of his family. Born on July 27, 1953, in Springfield, Ohio, Rod lived a life enriched by dedication to his family, his community, and his lifelong passions.
As a farmer whose cherished land had been passed down for generations, Rod embodied the values of hard work and perseverance, instilling them in those he loved. He was a proud graduate of Northwestern High School and later honorably served in the National Guard, where he learned the virtues of discipline and camaraderie, which he carried throughout his life.
Rod's vibrant personality made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Known as a straight shooter with no filter, he was honest and straightforward, qualities that endeared him to family and friends alike. His extensive knowledge and conversational wit were hallmarks of his character, making conversations with him uniquely engaging.
Beyond his farming legacy, Rod was deeply committed to his community, volunteering for 20 years with the Pike Township fire and EMT services. His selflessness showed the depth of his character and the importance he placed on helping others.
A lover of life, Rod found joy in riding his Harley Davidson and tinkering with his old muscle car, where he discovered new challenges and experiences.
Rod shared a beautiful love story of 50 years with his devoted wife, Jody (Whip) Bishop. He was a proud father to Jason (Jennie) Bishop, who continues the family's legacy with the same passion and commitment that Rod exemplified. Rod will forever be remembered as a loving papaw to Kendall and Reid Bishop, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Rod is also survived by his father-in-law, John Whip.
Rod joins his beloved parents, Leonard and Emilie (Circle) Bishop, and his mother-in-law, Gayle Whip, in eternal rest.
In honoring Rod’s memory, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield on February 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
Rod A. Bishop’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, as a testament to a life well-lived, full of dedication, generosity, and love.
