Ronald P. Kaluger, Sr., fondly known as Ron, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in Springfield, Ohio. Born on February 27, 1942, in Bellaire, Ohio, he carved out a rich and dynamic legacy over his 83 years, touching the hearts of all who knew him.
A man of many trades and manifold talents, Ron dedicated over 40 years of his life as a paramedic and firefighter, embodying the spirit of service and community with steadfast resolve. For around 12 years, he served as a councilman in Shadyside, where he committed himself to the betterment of his beloved town. His leadership shone brightly as he ascended to the role of President of the Council for four years, ultimately concluding his extraordinary career with a tenure as Mayor, also for four years—a testament to his unwavering dedication to public service.
Beyond his civic engagements, Ron's professional accomplishments were equally impressive. He retired after 50 years from Navistar - International Harvester, having built a solid foundation in the automotive industry. Ron also created a name for himself in entrepreneurship, once owning Kaluger’s Auto Center and operating two body shops during the energetic decade of the 1960s.
He was a graduate of Shadyside High School and furthered his education at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio. Yet, it was his love of cars that truly fueled his passion. A proud member of the Champaign Cruisers Car Club, Ron reveled in the camaraderie of fellow car enthusiasts, showcasing his exquisite 1990 Iroc convertible, 2000 convertible Mustang, and the timeless 1968 Mustang GT. As a judge at numerous car shows, he found joy in sharing his knowledge and appreciation for the artistry of automobiles.
Most importantly, Ron was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Nancy (Holmes) Kaluger, and took immense pride in his roles as husband, father, and Pap Pap. His son, Ron P. (Beth) Kaluger, resides in Shadyside, while his daughter, Julie (RC) Turner, finds her home in Springfield. Ron’s heart swelled with love for his grandchildren: Zachary Turner, Cole (Jessica) Kaluger, and Carrie (Steven) Kaluger-Jendrusik. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Edith Kaluger, and his beloved sister, Delores Pacifico.
Survived also by his brothers, Nick (Lorraine) Kaluger of Nashville, TN, Chuck (Barb) Kaluger of Shadyside and Columbus, OH, and sister Carolyn (Jody) Glaub of Weirton, WV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, Ron’s legacy continues to blossom in the lives of those who loved him. His special home health aides, Shi-Anne and Sheri, brought warmth and care into his life, and their presence enriched his final years.
The love Ron carried for his family was profound, often stating that the greatest honor of his life was to be called a husband, father, and Pap Pap. His warmth, humor, and kindness will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
