Born on July 5, 1937, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, Shirley was a woman of deep warmth and boundless spirit, whose life was a testament to the joys found in nature, family, and the simple pleasures of life.
Retiring from Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio, Shirley dedicated her career to inspiring countless students. Her nurturing personality and dedication made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Beyond her professional life, she embraced a multitude of passions that defined her vibrant character. Shirley was nature-oriented, often spending her days immersed in mushroom hunting and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She found joy in playing the piano, enjoyed solving puzzles, and displayed her creativity through her crafty endeavors, particularly her love for sewing.
Shirley’s faith played a vital role in her life as a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in South Charleston, where she found community and fellowship. With her charismatic presence and gentle spirit, she formed lasting relationships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her adoring daughters, Teri (Jeff) Banion, Lynne Banion, and Anita (Steve) Porter; her cherished grandchildren, Adria (Nick) Flannery, Tyler (Holly) Banion, Vince (Ashley) Banion, Nick (Erica) Banion, Haley (Ryan) Ogg, and Lauryn Schuller; her step-sons, Darin (Lori) Leach and Duane (April) Leach; step-grandchildren: Ashley (Alex) McCurdy, Courtney (Logan) Zuk, and Rachel (Weston) Renner; along with her loving brother, Bob (Nita) Skidmore, and sister, Jan (Dave) Townsend. Additionally, Shirley leaves behind several nieces and nephews, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, who will all carry her legacy in their hearts.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Steve Leach, her dear parents Maxwell & Alice (Barger) Skidmore, and her son-in-law, Tim Banion.
