Valerie Jo Watring

Feb 9, 1959 — Sep 12, 2026

Columbus, Ohio

Valerie Jo Watring (Schreiner) was born in San Antonio Texas on Monday February 9, 1959, to Louis R. Schreiner & Lois L. Schreiner (Widner). Her siblings are Ginger M. von Wolffradt (Schreiner), Louis A. Schreiner, Kevin R. Schreiner, and Andrea C. Heslin (Schreiner). On Saturday September 12th, at age 67, Valerie's eyes were closed to this Earth.

Valerie was and still is; Honest, Determined, Stubborn, Funny, Resilient, Considerate, Selfless, Nurturing, Faithful, Loving and Devoted to family, friends, and Jesus.

Valerie served in The Air National Guard, obtained a master's degree in social work from OSU, and worked dedicatedly caring for and teaching people with developmental disabilities under the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities. She was talented at drawing, loved reading, watching old romantic movies, gardening, and cuddling with her dogs Jax and later Jorj. She could defeat any football player at arm wrestling back in High-School, and at age 67 she probably still could. After moving to Columbus, Ohio in 2005, she was raising three children, working full time, while also earning her master's degree. Having impacted so many people during her time on Earth, she never gave up and had so much love to give people. She created a home where her children could grow, make mistakes, and still know they were loved and forgiven. If you ever met Valerie then you were also met with the truth of God's love, His sacrifice, His forgiveness, and a conversation about Heaven; all from a 5'2 mother of 6 who had the strength of at least 12 men.

After finding out her daughter Jarian was born deaf, Valerie learned American Sign Language (ASL) and even tried to become an interpreter. She retook ASL 3 three times because she refused to give up. She eventually pursued social work but was proud of how much ASL she learned and how it helped her communicate with her daughter Jarian.

Valerie is survived by: Nigel Joseph Hatcher 46, his wife Ashley Hatcher 42, their daughters Danielle Hatcher 26, and Kaylee Hatcher 9. Derek Allen Hatcher 43, his wife Jessica Hatcher 39, their son Harrison Hatcher 9, and their daughter Luna Mae Hatcher 7. Ryan Philip Hatcher 42, his wife Felisha Vitela-Hatcher 43, and their daughter Bellamae Ruth-Pryor Hatcher 16. Gareth Thomas Schreiner 32, and his wife Annalise Claire Schreiner (Van Luinen). Samuel Earl Watring 27. Jarian Valerie Watring 26.
