If you have ever loved a pet, there will be three significant days you will always remember.
The first is the day you bring them home. regardless of the journey you took picking out the perfect pet this day is filled with joy, and excitement as you wach them explore their new home, claim their special place, nuzzle up to you for attention. It is the first day in your new love relationship.
The second is a day several years later, when you look at your lontime friend and see age where you once saw youth, slow methodical moves where you once saw endless energy and more sleep than usual.
The third day, if your friend and God have not already decided for you, yoou will face the decision of your own, on behalf of your lifelong friend. But regardless of how your friend leaves you, you will feel a deep loss and not know how to make the pain end.
My advice is to let your tears and feelings flow freely and as often as they must. And if you are typical, you will find that not many of your circle of friends and family will be able to understand or comfort you. We host a Pet Loss Grief Support group that meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 7:00pm. We also host and annual Pet Memorialization Program in September.

The unconditional love of a pet is a love that will live forwever. It is the legacy our pets leave with us when they go. And it is a gift we make keep with us as long as we live.
